1.For the most basic document, you simply have to type the body text of the document template in the word processor.   As with any word processor, you can select different fonts, change font color, size and style, and adjust paragraph formatting using the icons along the top of the screen or by accessing the Format menu.  If you do not know what an icon represents, float the mouse over the icon.  The icon name will appear in a small pop-up.

2.To re-size the document, select Format | Page Layout.  You may need to change the page layout, for example, if you are creating a document for legal-sized paper.  Make your changes in the Page Layout window and click OK.

3.To change the unit of measurement on the rulers, select View | Units | Inches or Centimeters.
4.To add headers and footers, click View | Document Header or View | Document Footer.
a.Type in the appropriate text for your header and footer.
b.Click View | Document Body to return to the body text of your document.
c.Note that this is only the simple method of adding headers and footers; you cannot change the headers and footers from page to page.  If you want to create more sophisticated headers and footers, see the instructions below under Advanced Headers and Footers.
d.To re-define the space for headers, select Format | Page Layout.  Make your changes and click OK.
5.To add a table to your template, click Table | Create.  In the Insert Table window, enter the number of columns/rows and make your other selections.  Click OK.

6.To add a merge field to the template, see the instructions below at Merge Fields.
7.When you are finished with your template, select File | Save or click the Save icon.
8.To exit the Word Processor, select File | Close or click on the X in the upper right corner.  You will return to the Letter Template [New] window.  Click Save.
9.If you are working outside of the letter template setup area, such as creating a communication or entering comments in an event, you can save that document as a template for future use.  Select File | Save as Template from the Word Processor menu.  The Letter Template [New] window appears.  Enter the Letter Code, Description and Communication Reference as usual, and click Save.  The letter template will be saved in the letter template setup area.
