The different components of a report may appear to be in neat vertical stacks in the Report Designer, but this is not necessarily how they will appear in the actual report.  Often, you will not know how much information has to fit into a region, group or field; it may depend on the date range, filter or other parameters you set on the report.

1.If you want a component to expand or contract to accommodate varying amounts of information, right-click the component and select Stretch.  If the component is within a region or band, select Stretch With Parent to allow the component to expand or contract based on the changing size of the surrounding band or region.
2.However, if a component “stretches” to take up more room in the report, you do not want it to print over the adjacent component.  It usually does not work to leave spaces in the report, as you cannot predict how much a component will have to contract or expand in each situation.  To prevent overlapping, you can allow the different components to Shift according to each other.
3.Right-click the component and select one of the Shift options.  These will vary according to the location of the component.
a.Shift Relative To:  This allows you to specify the vertical position between multiple stretching components. From the drop-down list in the dialog box, choose the component you want to use as a reference for shifting the current component’s position.
b.Shift With Parent:  Use this option to allow a non-stretching component to shift position based on the height of the band or region in which it is located.
4.If you want an entire band to expand or condense to accommodate report components, right-click in a blank spot in the band and check the DynamicHeight option.  If a band is set to StaticHeight, it will use the exact amount of page space specified by its height, which you can view or change by right-clicking the band and selecting Position.
